Palmetto_School_demolition__9-08

Members of the demolition crew chat with Fulton County Commission Vice Chairman William “Bill” Edwards, District 7, (second from left) as they begin knocking down the former Palmetto Elementary School on School Street. From left are: Michael Gist, owner of Craft-Tech Builders and Developers, the contractor; Herman Kitt; and Cedric Smalls. After all of the debris is cleared, the ground is graded and >grass is planted, the property will be sold. The Fulton County General Services Department’s Construction Division is managing the demolition. Owned by Fulton County, the building also housed the area’s senior program until the County opened the new Palmetto Neighborhood Senior Center at 510 Turner Avenue in 2002.
