  •  Re-Use Program implemented in August 2009 which diverted usable items from the landfill as follows:

Volunteer opportunity for County departments to donate typical office supplies or items of little or no monetary value for reuse

Over 2,500 diskettes collected for the County’s library branches. Diskettes are made available for library  patrons to save electronic information.

140 CD/DVDs have been collected and distributed to the Public Works Education and Outreach Program. CD/DVDs are used in environmental programming for children at summer camps and libraries.

 

  •  Implemented a County initiative to reduce energy consumption by replacing older copier equipment with new energy star units that combine print, copy, fax and scanning capabilities into a single machine.
  • Participated in the “Drive Smarter Challenge” which encouraged employees and residents to adopt smart driving measures to help reduce gasoline costs and improve air quality.
  •  A low/no cost employee information campaign was implemented which included:

Weekly email reminder sent to employees to turn off work area lights and office equipment before leaving work for the weekend

“Turn Off Lights When Leaving” labels posted in common areas (restrooms, break rooms, file rooms) at the Government Center Building and South Service Center

  •  Implemented a 2009 pilot project to reduce utility consumption in the Government center building through education and minimal equipment changes.
  •  Started a test program to reduce electrical consumption at 3 County facilities.

An energy management device has been installed at the East Point and East Atlanta libraries and the Willeo Pump Station in Roswell in 4th quarter 2009.

 Data will be collected for a specified period of time.

Utility data will be evaluated to determined electrical consumption savings and potential annual savings with implementation of the equipment countywide.
